Give A Little Love – a Christmas campaign
like no other, for a year like no other
For Christmas 2020, we were tasked with creating a positive and uplifting ad that would spread kindness and positivity across the nation – in a time where people really needed it most.

Our film sees one small act of kindness spark a heartfelt chain reaction – showing how powerful giving a little love can really be. Each scene was written with the intention of showing a different way of giving love. From inclusiveness and community support, to the simple act of helping someone get a ball out of the tree.
Directed by Oscar Hudson
Animation by: Chris Hopewell, Anna Mantzaris, Andy Gent and Anthony Farqhar Smith, MegaComputeur, Anete Malece, Sylvain Choumet, Shotopop

This year, instead of doing a re-record of a famous song – we worked with BRIT award winner Celeste and briefed her to write an original composition for the advert. The result? A stunning song that perfectly captures the campaign message with Celeste’s voice as magical as ever.
Performed live on The Royal Variety Show, The Voice and Strictly Come Dancing.

We enlisted the help of different creatives – talented illustrators, animators and makers, all experts in their field – who could bring our vision to life. The group ranged from high-profile directors and puppeteers to university graduates. Everything – from the claymation figures and the Puppet Pigeons, to the cardboard bus (aka the 222 to Tooting) – were painstakingly made by hand.
We worked with director Oscar Hudson, and all these talented creatives, to pull together a seamless giving of love, blending all the styles into a beautiful film.

The film was just the start, kicking off a huge charity effort over Christmas. Through ‘Give a Little Love‘ John Lewis and Waitrose aimed to raise £4m for the two charities, boosting FareShare‘s efforts to support those facing food poverty and Home-Start‘s initiatives for parents who need support. With a further fund of £1m created to bring the charity partnership to life in-store.
